For this project, two murals were created. The first, a custom design, used one of the school's mottoes, "kindness, respect, and determination." To add depth and dimension to these words, I created the words using a 3D effect that made them appear as if they were hovering off of the wall. The second was the school logo, placed at the front of the school.
What truly sets this project apart is that both murals were created collaboratively. Working in tandem with the school's art teacher and 11 awesome middle school students, a large portion of the murals were created by the students. This approach not only allowed the students the opportunity to engage with a large-scale art projects but also instilled a sense of ownership and pride in the art at their school.
I was told by several teachers that many of the students who participated in creating the murals proudly shared their excitement with their friends, saying things like "I helped with that!" This sense of accomplishment and ownership reflects the success of the project.
Placed strategically near a window, the school's logo mural is visible from outside and allows parents and people passing on the street the ability to see the mural as well. This provides and welcoming sight for parents and students alike as they approach the school, further enhancing the sense of school spirit and pride.
Murals can be a valuable tool for promoting school spirit, conveying essential messages, and fostering a sense of community and pride. If you are interested in having a mural like this at your school or business, click the button below!
